Vintage buy-back cards inserted in O-Pee-Chee Hockey

Upper Deck has purchased thousands of O-Pee-Chee Hockey cards from as far back as the 1930s and randomly inserted them into the 2007-08 version of its O-Pee-Chee offering. The buy-back cards, featuring the likes of Hall of Famers King Clancy, Harvey Jackson, Roy Worters, Howie Morenz and many more, appear one per hobby box. Autographed buy-back versions, featuring such stars as Patrick Roy, Mario Lemieux and Mark Messier, will be inserted one per case.

“Working on this set was really exciting for many of us in the building as it really took us back to our childhood,” said Karvin Cheung, hockey brand manager for Upper Deck. “It will be a real thrill for collectors to pull these buy-back cards, but I know they will also appreciate some of the new technologies we incorporated.”

This year’s O-Pee-Chee Hockey set will feature 500 regular cards and 100 rookie cards. Rookies and other insert sets were produced on mirror board. Additionally, there are two parallels of the set that use a new micro-motion technology, offering the look of etched foil behind the player.
