With its purchase of the well-established Sun-Times collectibles shows, Mounted Memories already has a strong presence twice a year in the strong Chicago hobby market. But the company believes they can expand that presence by adding a third event this summer.
The FansEdge Sports Spectacular will take place July 16-19. Like the March and December Sun-Times shows, the event will be held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.
Value is a big theme for this event, with the company touting a “Hobby Bailout – Collectors Stimulus Plan” on July 17 in which autograph prices for more than a dozen players will be reduced by nearly 50 percent. The show will also randomly give away more than 1,000 free autographs over the course of the four days from athletes such as Peyton Manning, Dick Butkus, Gale Sayers, Pete Rose and Carlton Fisk.
“This is unheard of in our industry” said Mitch Adelstein, president of Mounted Memories. “We want to help give back to the collectors and dealers who have supported us for the past 20 years in this industry.”
The show opens on July 16 with free admission and “White Sox Night,” where several past and present White Sox players will sign autographs. The show will also boast an interactive area with everything from an inflatable obstacle course to miniature golf.
The show will also feature a strong variety of autograph signers, including Manning, Cal Ripken Jr., Ernie Banks, Gordie Howe, Bill Russell, Rick Flair, Brandi Chastain and Robin Yount. More than 50 signers will take part over the course of the weekend.
“After the amazing success of our sports shows in November and March, we decided to produce a summer show to bridge the gap for all of the sports fans,” said Brian Schwartz, president of Schwartz Sports, a division of Mounted Memories.
