Dreams, Inc. has acquired ownership of the semi-annual Chicago Sun-Times collectible shows from George Johnson of Sportssnews Productions, Inc. Dreams will now take control of running the two shows, which take place in November and March each year at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill.
Johnson will stay on as a consultant for Dreams for at least five years to help run the shows. Mounted Memories, the wholesale division of Dreams, Inc., has worked with the longtime Chicago-area promoter on the shows for more than 15 years, and had an exclusive arrangement to provide the athletes for the autograph pavilion. “George has been a driving force for these shows and has done an amazing job making it the best show in the country,” said Mitch Adelstein, president of Mounted Memories.
“We look forward to leveraging our considerable Chicago-based assets to increase the show’s attendance and profitability,” said Dreams CEO Ross Tannenbaum.
Dreams’ acquisition of the show had been anticipated ever since it announced in early August that it had purchased majority ownership of Chicago-based Schwartz Sports. Schwartz had announced in June that it had reached a tentative agreement to purchase the Sun-Times shows from Johnson. “We’re thrilled to work with Brian Schwartz and his team on the show,” added Adelstein. “They did all of the initial work regarding the purchasing of the show and after Dreams purchased Brian’s company, the next logical step was the purchase of the show.”
The next Sun-Times show is slated for Nov. 17-18. Those interested in exhibiting at the show should contact Johnson at (630) 627-1975.
