Press Pass announced its upcoming Legends Basketball product, which goes live Jan. 24, will feature the first-ever autograph cards of Hall of Famer Pete Maravich.
“We’re ecstatic that we’ve been able to obtain several cut signatures of Pete Maravich,” said Nick Matijevich, Press Pass product manager. “Pistol Pete is arguably the greatest collegiate basketball player of all time. The fact his first autographed card is going to feature him as an LSU Tiger is not only fitting, but the way it should be.”
This is the first time Press Pass has brought its Legends brand to basketball. In addition to legendary stars such as Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Jerry West, the set also features 2006 rookies such as Adam Morrison and J.J. Redick.
All players in the set are pictured during their collegiate careers. Every 18-pack hobby box of Legends Basketball will deliver five autographs and one game-used jersey card, with at least four of the autographs being from all-time greats.
Autographs from Maravich, who died in 1988, are considered rare and valuable in the hobby. The Maravich cut-signature cards will be part of the set’s Center Court Cuts insert, which also features signatures from Russell, another hard-to-find signature on trading cards. There are four other autographed insert sets in the product featuring some of the legendary names in the history of the game.
“Between the vintage collegiate photography, hard autographs, inscription signatures, and player content, we feel this is going to be one of the top products released in 2007,” Matijevich said.
