New Topps set highlights 50 years of basketball cards

Topps has created a special 50-card set to commemorate the company’s 50 years of basketball products. The cards, featuring a mix of current and retired NBA stars, are available on a weekly basis at participating Home Team Advantage stores.

To receive the newest card for a given week, collectors must buy any pack of a 2007-08 Topps basketball product. The 17-week promotion began last week with cards of Tim Duncan and Dirk Nowitzki and continues through May 5. The cards feature this year’s Stadium Club design with a special “Topps 50” logo on the card front.

Among the retired greats in the set are Moses Malone, Bill Walton, Bill Russell, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Rick Barry, Walt Frazier, Karl Malone, Wes Unseld, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Earl Monroe, Patrick Ewing, Jerry West, Julius Erving and Pete Maravich.
