Youngster claims prizes in baseball card sweepstakes

Pete Hadley, the grand-prize winner of the 2006 “Bring the Game Home” baseball trading card sweepstakes, was the envy of his neighborhood last week when the 12-year-old collector welcomed New York Mets pitchers John Maine (pictured at left, below) and Aaron Heilman into his Forked River, N.J., home.

Hadley, a Mets fan who pitches and plays third base on his Little League baseball team, received some personal instruction and playing tips from Maine and Heilman. The Mets players also presented the youngster with a prize package consisting of a variety of MLBPA-licensed baseball products, including boxes of Topps and Upper Deck baseball cards, baseball video games, a home theater system and an Xbox 360 video game console. Hadley also attended the Brewers-Mets game May 11 at Shea Stadium and met David Wright on the field before the game.

The MLBPA, Topps and Upper Deck are sponsoring another contest this season. Specially marked packs of Topps, Upper Deck, and Fleer Ultra baseball cards will give young collectors the opportunity to win a trip to the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium.
