Another person is in the running for Ken Griffey Jr.’s 600th home run ball – Griffey himself. According to MLB.com, Griffey has made an offer to Joe Scherer for the ball. As of now, Scherer plans to sell the ball through Mastro Auctions in an Aug. 1 sale. Griffey has reportedly offered Scherer some of his game-used articles, items that came from other players and an all-expense-paid trip to New York for next week’s All-Star break. The three-day, three-night vacation would include tickets to all the Yankee Stadium events, including the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. There’s still a possible legal battle over the ball, as Justin Kimball has filed suit to block the sale of the ball in Miami-Dade County court, but a temporary restraining order to block the sale of the ball wasn’t upheld by the court.
