A Joe Jackson game-used bat, which is known to many in the hobby as the “Black Betsy” bat, is being sold on eBay by the man who paid more than $577,000 for the bat in 2001. Rob Mitchell of Pennsylvania-based Mitchell Marketing is offering the bat for a starting bid of $600,000 or a Buy It Now price of $750,000. Since buying it, Mitchell has displayed it on a variety of TV interviews and also loaned it to the Ronald Reagan Library for an exhibit that was used as part of a fund-raising event. Mitchell previously offered the bat for sale in 2005 via a Sotheby’s/SCP Auctions event, but the bat did not meet the reserve price. The auction closes Wednesday evening.
